Description
Tender cremini or white button mushrooms sautéed until lightly browned, then finished with garlic, butter, black pepper, and parsley for a simple, savory side dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 16 oz cremini or white button mushrooms
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tbsp canola oil, to toss mushrooms
- 1 tbsp canola oil, for cooking
- 1 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter
- Minced parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Clean the mushrooms and trim the stems as needed. Slice them into even pieces.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to a bowl and toss with 1/2 tablespoon canola oil, garlic powder, and black pepper until evenly coated.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon canola oil.
- Add the seasoned mushrooms and spread them into an even layer. Cook, stirring occasionally, until they release their moisture, the liquid evaporates, and the mushrooms begin to brown.
- Add the unsalted butter and minced garlic. Stir well to coat the mushrooms and cook briefly until the garlic is fragrant and the butter has melted.
- Season with salt to taste and continue cooking until the mushrooms are tender and nicely browned.
- Remove from the heat, garnish with minced parsley, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a large skillet so the mushrooms have enough space to brown instead of steaming.
- Cremini mushrooms provide a deeper flavor, while white button mushrooms have a milder taste.
- Add the garlic after the mushrooms have cooked down to help prevent it from burning.
