“Hocus Pocus” Halloween Cookies

Rich, soft chocolate cookies topped with vivid neon green frosting and orange, green, and purple M&M candies for a fun and colorful Halloween treat.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sweet cream unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 16 oz white frosting
  • 5 drops neon green gel food coloring
  • M&M candies, orange, green, and purple

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to the temperature specified by your recipe and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and packed brown sugar until creamy and well combined.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla, mixing until evenly incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until a cohesive chocolate cookie dough forms.
  6. Scoop the dough into portions and arrange them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between the cookies.
  7. Bake according to the recipe’s specified temperature and baking time, watching carefully toward the end.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool completely.
  9. Stir the white frosting with 5 drops of neon green gel food coloring until evenly colored.
  10. Spread the neon green frosting over the cooled cookies.
  11. Decorate with orange, green, and purple M&M candies while the frosting is still soft enough for the candies to stick.

Notes

  • Use softened butter rather than melted butter for the cookie dough.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely before frosting so the neon green frosting stays in place.
  • Add the M&M candies while the frosting is still soft so they adhere securely.
