Meat Sauce

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 48 ounces spaghetti sauce

Cheese Filling

  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley (or 4 tablespoons fresh parsley)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Pasta

  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage, drain the grease, then stir in garlic and spaghetti sauce. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Cook lasagna noodles until al dente, drain, and prevent them from sticking.
  4. Mix ricotta, eggs, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella.
  7. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
  8. Pour ¼ cup water around the edges of the baking dish.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake another 15 minutes until bubbly and lightly browned.
  11. Rest for 15–20 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Let the lasagna rest before cutting for cleaner slices.
  • Freshly shredded mozzarella melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
  • Freeze leftovers in individual portions for quick meals later.
