Meat Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ pound sweet Italian sausage
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 48 ounces spaghetti sauce
Cheese Filling
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
- 2 large eggs
- ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley (or 4 tablespoons fresh parsley)
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Pasta
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage, drain the grease, then stir in garlic and spaghetti sauce. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
- Cook lasagna noodles until al dente, drain, and prevent them from sticking.
- Mix ricotta, eggs, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
- Pour ¼ cup water around the edges of the baking dish.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake another 15 minutes until bubbly and lightly browned.
- Rest for 15–20 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Let the lasagna rest before cutting for cleaner slices.
- Freshly shredded mozzarella melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
- Freeze leftovers in individual portions for quick meals later.
