  • 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons gluten-free breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)

For the Sauce

  •  ¼ cup low-sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • ¼ cup gochujang
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable broth or water
  • 3 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for 30 minutes and cut it into cubes.
  2. Toss with tamari, cornstarch, and breadcrumbs.
  3. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 30–35 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Combine all sauce ingredients except the cornstarch slurry in a saucepan and heat until smooth.
  5. Stir together the cornstarch and water, then whisk it into the sauce until thickened.
  6. Toss the baked tofu with the warm sauce.
  7. Serve over rice with your favorite vegetables.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu thoroughly is the key to achieving the crispiest texture.
  • Toss the tofu with the sauce just before serving to maintain its crunch.
  • Adjust the amount of gochujang to make the sauce milder or spicier.
