- 1 cup granulated sugar

- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Dumplings
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Simmer the blackberries with sugar, water, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix the dry dumpling ingredients.
- Cut the butter into the flour mixture.
- Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla until just combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the simmering blackberry sauce.
- Cover and steam for 15–18 minutes.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
- Keep the butter cold for light, fluffy dumplings.
- Do not lift the lid while the dumplings are steaming.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for the best experience.
