  •  2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Simmer the blackberries with sugar, water, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
  2. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Mix the dry dumpling ingredients.
  4. Cut the butter into the flour mixture.
  5. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the simmering blackberry sauce.
  7. Cover and steam for 15–18 minutes.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving warm.
